Book 2 Post 1
Love, Loss, and What We Ate: A Memoir
For the second book of this semester, I decided to choose Love, Loss, and What We Ate: A Memoir by Padma Lakshmi. I was interested in the summary of this book as it traces the life of Lakshmi. Padma Lakshmi walks us through her journey as it changed from an unlikely path of an immigrant childhood to a complicated life behind the camera. Before Lakshmi started her career in entertainment, she learned that what we eat is an extension of how we love, comfort, forge a sense of home, and navigate through life. Regardless of the locations, Lakshmi's favorite food remained the simple rice she ate from her grandma's kitchen.
In Chapter 1, Lakshmi began with her book with her divorce from her now ex-husband, Salman. I was surprised by the honesty and sincerity Lakshmi was to her readers. Walking away from a marriage is never easy, and for Lakshmi to began her book with her personal life, it shed light on her bold personality. As the chapter progress, she spoke about tweaking her favorite receipt in an attempt to lower calories and shift focus away from the flavor. Due to her career in modeling and acting, this type of sacrifice is necessary for the job. From what I have read so far, I genuinely enjoy the tone and structure of this book. I am excited to learn more about Lakshmi's journey as she revealed more of her wisdom. In addition, I hope she shares some of the secret recipes for her favorite food.
