Alice As midterm season hits and assignments compiled, I have decided to invest in a new Korean drama called Alice. Was that a smart choice? The answer is… probably not. However, I did it anyway. Giving the current situations, I believe by watching television shows, movies, or foreign dramas is the best way to escape the reality around us. I’m not sure if this is the best coping mechanism, but it definitely is fun to submerge ourselves to a virtual experience for an hour or two.  Alice is a drama that deals with time-traveling in the year 2050. Alice is an organization that provides time-traveling services for people who had a tragic past. During a mission to uncover the book of prophecy (the future of time-traveling), agent Tae Yi realized she is pregnant with her partner Min Hyuk's child. Due to the time-traveling radiation risk, Min Hyuk urges Tae Yi to abort the baby. However, she refused and decided to stay in the year 1992 to raise the baby alone. Soon, the child was born. Un...

American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures The first book I chose to read is called, American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Culture , by America Ferrera. I initially picked this book due to the interesting title and intriguing storyline. Additionally, the book is compiled and edited by the award-winning actress, American Ferrera, who starred in Ugly Betty. I thought it would be interesting to read about her personal experience and journey she had from being a Honduran American.   American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures is a book that shares a collection of immigrant “American” stories gathered and compiled by the actress. In the book, Ferrera shares her personal experiences growing up as Honduran American and the challenges she encountered as a multicultural American. She expresses the feeling of not belonging to either side of the culture. The book explores the perspectives of immigrant “American” experiences who came from different bac...

We are in this Together How to be “mentally successful” as a college student  By Emily Tsai At some point in our college careers, as much as anyone would like to admit or not, each of us probably experiences a few minor mental breakdowns. Admit it, it happens. Does this sound familiar?  Picture this:  It’s the first day back to school from your summer break, you sit down in your BUAD 304 class, and your professor asks, “how was your summer break? What did you do?” You overhear your peers naming top tier companies like Disney, NASA, Goldman Sachs, Bain, and Google. It’s inevitable that your mental comparison of yourself to others begins to happen. It somehow triggers the doubt within yourself and ends with trailing questions about your career or major choices. According to the U.S. Department of Education, 30% of first-time undergraduate students change their major once within the first 3 years of college. By changing majors, this ultimately leads to changing career...

American Like Me: Reflections on Life Between Cultures The first book I chose to read is called  American Like Me , compiled and edited by America Ferrera. I picked this book because the storyline resonated with me the most. "American Like Me" is based on the personal experiences of America Ferrera, an award-winning actress in the television show "Ugly Betty." In the book, Ferrera describes her experience as a Honduran immigrant and the struggles she encountered as a multicultural American. The book explores the different perspectives of American immigrants who came from different backgrounds sharing the same type of issues being a misfit in American society. As a 1.5 generation immigrant, I experienced some similar challenges as Ferrera. Therefore, it is interesting to read about her immigration and assimilation journey. I think this book is inspiring because this is through the perspective of someone who overcame adversity to live the American dream. Through her s...

Forensic Accounting Intern When someone pictures a typical accountant, they often imagine a monotonous person sitting in a cubical working from nine to five.  As someone who decided to choose a career in Forensic Accounting, I think it’s important to break that stereotype. Being an accountant in the public industry, more often than not, has traveling as a crucial component in their job description. We frequently travel as a team and work from client sites. The opportunities within the industry are endless as the service lines include Tax, Assurance, and Advisory. We can work on multiple projects at a time and have exposure to different industries. In a way, we can experience the client company culture without being an official employee. The rotational program is available for young professionals; Therefore, we have the opportunity to explore our interests. As a previous forensic accounting intern, I had the opportunity to work on forensic accounting cases that dealt with fra...
